Xiaomi manufacturers rice cookers, smartphones, and everything in between. In the wearables market, the company has already secured the second spot in terms of shipments. What’s impressive is that Xiaomi achieved this by introducing only two basic fitness bands — the Mi Band and Mi Band Pulse. These devices sold well because of the dirt-cheap pricing. Now building on that success, the Chinese company has announces its first fitness tracker with a screen. Christened as the Mi Band 2, the gadget features a 0.4″ OLED screen. A big improvement compared to no display on its predecessors.
The Mi Band 2 can count steps, measure heartbeats, and even monitor your sleep. Reminds me of how scientists used to keep an eye on animals using similar devices. Xiaomi claims that the gadget’s wristband is made of skin-friendly thermoplastic elastomer (that sounds like a nuclear fuel). The fitness band is water and dust resistant, so that you don’t have to worry about the and during the workout.
The gadget connects to your phone suing Bluetooth 4.0. It is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 and above. It also supports Apple products based on at least iOS 7.0. The Mi Band 2 packs-in a 70 mAh battery, which is said to offer 20 day standby.
The Mi Band 2 will start selling in China on 7th of this month. The device is priced at 149 yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 1550.
