Google’s Pixel phones are now available for pre-order in India. Available via Flipkart, the handset is quite expensive. As we had reported during its announcement, the 32 GB Google Pixel is priced at Rs 57,000, whereas you have to pay Rs 66,000 for the 128 GB variant. The Google Pixel XL (128 GB) is pegged at Rs 76,000. Flipkart is also offering exchange discounts f up to Rs 27,000 on all the Pixel models. The final offer price will be based on your handset and its condition.
The Pixel is Google’s attempt to take on the iPhone in the premium segment. After Samsung’s Note 7 debacle, it is great to see Google compete with Redmond based technology giant’s latest iPhone. The Pixel is Google’s first phone made inside and out by the company. I’m sure that’s reason enough for the Android fans to get excited. What I don’t appreciate is the fact that in addition to the features, Google is trying to match iPhone 7’s price tag.
Both the Pixel and Pixel Plus are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chip with 4 GB RAM. In the photography department, you get a 12-megapixel main camera with EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation). For selfies, there’s an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Other features include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and A-GPS. On the software front, the Pixel phones will run Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
